The Owl is open to professional film and TV writers of all nationalities who have started building their screenwriting career, and want to expand their work to reach a global audience.

The Owl is open to writers both with and without representation.
Each applicant may submit 1 TV drama pilot or 1 Feature Film script. Your script can be an original idea or be based on an underlying property.
Your script must have the potential to be adapted to be produced and/or shot in Greece. It could be set in Greece, or aim to shoot Greece for another location. For clarity, we are not expecting writers to submit a tailor made script for the purpose of the application but to submit a script that is already written and which could be adapted to be shot in Greece.
All scripts are carefully assessed by independent readers through multiple rounds of evaluation. Shortlisted applicants will have an interview with a panel of judges.
The Owl Workshop utilizes a rigorous diagnostic selection process in partnership with the Black List platform. Up to ten (10) professional writers will be selected in total.
Writers meeting the eligibility requirements can opt in for consideration via the Black List website until midnight PST on September 25, 2026. Initial filtration is data-driven, determined by the strength and scores of the mandatory Black List script evaluations. From this pool, a long list of up to forty (40) projects will be selected. Long-listed writers will be invited to submit supplementary materials, including:
The long list and supplementary materials will undergo evaluation by a committee of experienced film and television professionals assembled by the Athens Film Office. Submissions will be reviewed based on originality, writing style, market potential, and the writer’s track record.
A short list of up to twenty (20) candidates will be interviewed in the last week of November.
The Athens Film Office strongly encourages submissions from creators with underrepresented backgrounds and perspectives.
Up to 10 professional writers will be selected for the final workshop and notified no later than December 1, 2026.
