After the Israeli spy-thriller series ‘Tehran’ was met with overwhelmingly positive critical reviews, Apple TV+ renewed it for a second season in January 2021. Consequently, the TV show returns this summer to put Athens in disguise as the city of Tehran.
Apart from the lead characters that we got to know and will come back in the small screen, such as Niv Sultan as the Mossad agent Tamar, Shaun Toub as Faraz Kamali, and Navid Negahban as Masoud Tabrizi, the cast joins the veteran actress Glenn Close.
The new role which was especially created for Close will be that of Marjan Montazeri, a British woman, living in Tehran. According to the writer Moshe Zonder and co-creator of the show Omri Shenhar, Close is a big fan of the series and anticipates to start reading her role. She previously joined another drama series, FX’s ‘The Shield’, for a season-long series regular stint, which earned her an Emmy nomination and led to her own series, FX’s ‘Damages’, which landed her two Emmy Awards. ‘Tehran’ marks only the third series regular role.
The series is created by Zonder, Dana Eden and Maor Kohn, and directed by Daniel Syrkin. Shenhar serves as writer alongside Zonder. Syrkin and Shenhar are also co-creators. The executive producers are Eden and Shula Spiegel for Donna and Shula Productions, Zonder, Shenhar, Syrkin, Alon Aranya for Paper Plane Productions, Julien Leroux for Paper Entertainment, Peter Emerson for Cineflix Studios, and Eldad Koblenz for Kan 11. ‘Tehran’ is distributed internationally by Cineflix Rights.
