The implementation of the cash rebate system for the production of audiovisual works in Greece is a decisive step towards attracting film, television, documentary, animation producers and digital games developing companies to invest in the Greek creative sector.

The Greek cash rebate amounts to 40% on the eligible expenses incurred in Greece for all beneficiaries. Producers will have access to state aid once they pass the cultural test and spend at least a 100,000 in the case of feature films or documentaries and a 60,000 in the case of digital games in eligible expenses in Greece. Moreover, the updated legislation provides a more flexible floor for television series, starting at  25,000 per episode, although this could fall at 15.000 if the TV production consists of more than 100 episodes.

We also note that projects are financed without a cap.

The cash rebate will be available to producers no later than six months after the completion of production, provided that all prerequisites of the law have been 

The cash rebate for the audiovisual industry in Greece is administered by the National Centre of Audiovisual Media & Communication (EKOME S.A. www.ekome.media). 

Financing of the rebate is guaranteed through the Greek Public Investment Programme and amounts to €75 million available for the years 2018 to 2022.

What is actually financed?

The cash rebate scheme  supports the production of feature films, documentaries, TV drama series, animated films and digital games that choose Greece as a location. 

Commercials, reality TV shows, TV games, sports or current affairs shows are NOT eligible for funding.

Applications may be made for international and domestic productions and/or coproductions to obtain a 40% cash rebate on the sum of eligible expenses incurred in Greek territory.

How can you benefit from the cash rebate?

In order to apply for cash rebate in Greece you need to partner with a Greek production services company, or found one on your own (although the latter is not recommended for practical reasons).

  • For feature films spending limit of 100.00 Euros and above
  • For documentaries or short movies spending limit of 100.000 and above.
  • For TV series:
    • 25.000 spending limit per episode for a fiction series
    • 20.000 spending limit per episode if the production is a documentary.

NOTE: For TV productions that have more than 100 episodes. the above limits fall on 15.000 Euros per episode.
